Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Control Systems Engineer with a strong background in project management to join our engineering team. This position will combine technical expertise in control systems engineering with leadership in project management to oversee and deliver complex control systems projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing cutting-edge control systems while managing project timelines, budgets, and cross-functional teams. You will play a key role in ensuring successful project execution from concept to completion while maintaining a high standard of quality and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Control Systems Engineering:
- Design & Development: Lead the design and development of advanced control systems for automation, process control, and industrial applications, ensuring they meet project requirements and performance standards.
- System Integration: Oversee the integration of control systems with hardware, sensors, actuators, and other components, ensuring smooth and efficient system functionality.
- Control Algorithms: Develop and optimize control algorithms (e.g., PID, Model Predictive Control (MPC), etc.) to ensure system accuracy, efficiency, and robustness.
- Programming: Lead the programming, configuration, and troubleshooting of PLCs, SCADA systems, HMI interfaces, and DCS (Distributed Control Systems).
- Testing & Optimization: Conduct in-depth system testing and performance optimization to improve the reliability and efficiency of control systems.
- Troubleshooting: Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for control systems, resolving complex issues and minimizing system downtime.
Project Management:
- Project Leadership: Manage multiple control systems projects from initiation to completion, ensuring that all project milestones, timelines, and budgets are met. This includes defining project scopes, goals, deliverables, and resource requirements.
- Team Coordination: Lead cross-functional teams consisting of engineers, designers, technicians, and external vendors to execute projects efficiently. Ensure clear communication between all stakeholders.
- Risk Management: Proactively identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to address challenges related to technical, budgetary, and scheduling aspects of control systems projects.
- Client Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates on project progress, technical details, and addressing any concerns.
- Quality Assurance: Oversee the implementation of industry standards and best practices for control systems design, ensuring the highest level of quality and safety compliance.
- Documentation: Ensure comprehensive documentation of system designs, control strategies, project plans, progress reports, and final deliverables.
Mentorship & Development:
- Mentor Junior Engineers: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members, fostering a collaborative environment and encouraging professional growth.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in control systems engineering and project management, applying this knowledge to improve processes and outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- At least 7-10 years of hands-on experience in control systems engineering with a proven track record in the design and implementation of complex control systems.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in project management, overseeing technical projects from conception to completion.
- Strong experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.), SCADA systems, and HMI design.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus,) and system integration.
- Experience managing project timelines, budgets, and resources, with the ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Skills:
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to lead teams, manage resources, and meet deadlines.
- Strong technical knowledge in control systems theory, automation, and systems integration.
- Proficient in control systems software tools like MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or similar.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex control systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively interacting with clients, senior management, and technical teams.
- Experience with risk management and mitigation strategies.
- Certifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Certification in control systems or related field (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST), Six Sigma) is a plus.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with advanced control techniques (e.g., model predictive control, adaptive control).
- Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, IEC 61511).
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN).
- Experience in a specific industry (e.g., manufacturing, energy, oil & gas, robotics) is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, typically 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime based on project deadlines.
- Some travel may be required for site assessments, commissioning, or client meetings.
